What does emergency tree removal cover?

Emergency tree removal is for a tree or limb that's already down or about to fall, which in Eltham usually means storm damage. Think a gum across the fence or driveway, a limb on the roof, or a split branch over a path. We make it safe and clear it away, at a fixed price agreed first.

What happens when you ring

  • Tell us what's down.Where it's landed, roughly how big it is, and whether it's touching wires or a building. A photo helps.

  • We agree the price.Even in an emergency, you get a fixed price before any cutting starts.

  • The dangerous part goes first. We deal with anything still hanging or resting on the house, then clear the rest.

  • Cleared and taken away. The fallen tree, branches and leaves are cut up, loaded onto our truck and removed.

  • Fully insured. We're fully insured for the work we do on your property.

Storm call-outs

Storm damage we clear

These are the call-outs that follow a strong wind or a heavy downpour.

  • A tree across the driveway

A fallen tree blocking the car in is cut up and cleared so you can get out again.

  • Limbs on the roof

Branches lying on the roof are cut into manageable pieces and brought down, and we clear the debris from the gutters.

  • Cracked, hanging branches

A limb that's split but still attached is taken down in a controlled way before it falls on its own.

  • Trees on fences

We cut the tree off the fence and clear it away, so the fence can be repaired.

  • Trees leaning after rain

Soaked ground can let a tree tip. If the root plate, the mat of roots and soil at the base, is lifting, keep clear and ring us.

Which storm damage needs a call straight away?

Ring straight away if a tree or limb is on the house, blocking the only way out, or hanging over somewhere people walk.

A tree lying in the open, clear of buildings and other trees, can usually wait for a booked visit.

Either way, keep people and pets away from it until we've had a look.

What to do when a storm brings a tree down

What you do before help arrives matters most for keeping people safe.

Do this

  1. Get everyone, pets included, inside or well back from the tree.
  2. Look for fallen wires from a safe distance. If any are down or touching the tree, treat them as live and ring your power company's faults line.
  3. Photograph the tree and anything it hit, from where you're standing.
  4. Once everyone is safe, give us a ring.

Don't do this

  • Don't climb onto the roof to drag a branch off.
  • Don't cut a trunk or limb that's bent under tension. Wood that's pinned or bowed can spring back hard when it's cut.
  • Don't walk under a cracked limb that's still in the tree, even to reach the car.
  • Don't drive over fallen branches if there could be wires tangled in them.

If someone is hurt or trapped, call 000. For help with storm damage to your home, the SES, which is the State Emergency Service, is on 132 500.

Questions

Emergency and storm questions

That depends on your policy, so ring your insurer early. Most will ask for photos of the damage taken before anything was moved.

Yes. We work seven days, so a Saturday or Sunday storm is no different for us. Ring any day of the week and we'll arrange a time.

Let your neighbour know straight away, and both of you should speak to your insurers. Once it's safe and you've agreed who's paying, we can clear what's landed on your side.

Not always, but a fresh lean is a warning sign. Cracked soil or roots lifting on one side mean the tree has moved, so keep people and cars out from under it and ring us.

The power company has to make the lines safe first. Ring their faults line, stay well back, and call us about the tree once they've been.

If part of it hasn't fallen, we check with the council before we cut that part down. If you're unsure about anything else, ask us and we'll find out.
